Dog Freindly craft shoping in Oxford
It’s heartwarming to see that more and more stores in Oxford are becoming dog-friendly. I find that bringing my black Labrador, Oak, along can make shopping more fun and less stressful. If you watch the YouTube video below of our shopping trip, you can see how I constantly check in with Oak and have little conversations with her about what to buy. I’m sure she’s listening; she always looks interested and makes good eye contact.
Today, we visited Hobbycraft to pick out some material to make dog bandanas for this blog. The material is located upstairs, but the stairs are easy to manage. The store is well-laid out on two floors and offers a variety of craft products, including seasonal items like Mother’s Day and Christmas. The staff are lovely and dog-friendly, although the store doesn’t have water bowls or dog treats.
Our main goal was to choose material for dog bandanas, and we found a large choice of cotton, which I think is the best fabric as it’s lightweight and breathable. I’m hoping to make bandanas for lots of dogs, but if you’re making one for your dog, I suggest looking for patterns or colors that complement their fur or personality.
I’m planning to sew the bandanas myself and use iron-on transfers for the text. In my next blog post, I’ll share the step-by-step process of making the bandanas, as well as providing tips and resources so you can make your own dog accessories.
In the past I have bought felt to make small felt versions of my dog. I have made a pattern and added it on this blog as a free download.
Oak and I enjoyed our Hobbycraft shopping experience. If you’re a dog owner who loves to shop, sign up to be an author on Oxford City Blog and share your own dog-friendly shopping experiences or DIY projects in the comments.
Overall, we had a great experience at Hobbycraft and have some exciting plans for making dog bandanas. Oak gives Hobbycraft a Woof O meter rating of 4.
