Weekly Dog Walk: The Dogs Spot in Abingdon

Today was a perfect day for a dog walk, and my dog, Oaks, and I had a wonderful experience thanks to The Dogs Spot in Abingdon. The event was arranged by the shop and offered a fantastic opportunity for dogs and their owners to socialize and enjoy the outdoors.

The day began with ample parking available in Abingdon, making it easy to reach The Dogs Spot on 2 High Street. We arrived just before10 am, and the atmosphere was already buzzing with excitement. As we stepped inside, we were greeted warmly by Anna, one of the owners, who made us feel right at home. I couldn’t resist trying their delicious coffee, made with coffee form The Dark Horse Roastery, while Oak happily enjoyed a special treat called a “Pup O Cino” – a delightful blend of goat’s milk and beetroot juice with a cute dog paw print on top. Needless to say, we both savored our drinks.

Anna led the group, accompanied by her dog, Safi, as we began our leisurely stroll. The route took us alongside the park and across the lock, where we even had the pleasure of seeing some adorable goats. In total, there were nine dogs participating, and Oak seemed overjoyed to meet so many new dogs.

I appreciated how The Dogs Spot had organized this event every Tuesday, recognizing the importance of providing dogs with opportunities to socialize, especially after the pandemic. All the dogs got along brilliantly, and Oak particularly enjoyed walking alongside Rubas, a charming Jack Russell with a gentle personality. Rubas’ owner, Ana, and I struck up a lovely conversation while our furry companions happily trotted ahead.

The group was a delightful mix of dogs of various shapes, sizes, and ages. Anna mentioned that the oldest dog on the walk that day was 13 years old, and I wondered how that translates into dog years – a testament to the companionship and love these dogs receive.

The weather couldn’t have been better, and everyone was in high spirits. We chatted merrily as our dogs played together. The walk lasted about an hour, taking in some of the most beautiful river views and providing a perfect balance of exercise and enjoyment for both Oak and me.

Once we returned to The Dog Spot, Oaks was treated to a fantastic ice cream, and I continued my conversation with Ana. The shop’s cozy atmosphere and abundance of dog cushions made Oak feel right at home, and she comfortably settled herself under the table on a soft one.

The entire experience left Oak tired but content as she peacefully slept during the car ride home. Even now, as I write this, she’s still sound asleep at my feet, dreaming of the wonderful day she had.

I can’t recommend The Dogs Spot dog walks enough. It’s a fantastic way for dogs and owners alike to connect, socialize, and enjoy the outdoors together. If you ever get the opportunity to join one of their walks, I wholeheartedly encourage you to do so. It’s an experience you won’t forget!
