Oxford Bus Museum and Morris Motors Museum

Introducing Oak’s Adventures at the Oxford Bus Museum: A Dog-Friendly Delight!

🐾🚌🐾

Calling all dog lovers and bus enthusiasts! I recently had a pawsome day out with my dog, Oak, at the Oxford Bus Museum, and I just had to share our wonderful experience with you.

The museum is a true haven for bus and coach travel aficionados, located in the heart of Oxfordshire. As dog owners, we were thrilled to discover that dogs are welcome everywhere on the premises, except for the indoor café. So, Oak and I embarked on a delightful journey through time, exploring the fascinating world of buses, Morris Motors and wonderful collection of historic cycles.

To reach the museum, you can catch a train to Long Hanborough Station, as it is conveniently located right next to it. No car? No problem! The accessible train connection makes it easy for everyone to visit this captivating destination.

Upon arrival, we found ourselves greeted by a well-stocked café and friendly staff, eager to make our visit memorable. Although dogs are not allowed inside the café, they provide a fresh bowl of water by the door, and you’ll even find benches in the shade where you and your pooch can rest and cool off if needed.

The museum itself is stocked full of interesting items which are carefully laid out, to allow visitors to immerse themselves in the rich history of bus and coach travel in Oxfordshire spanning over 130 years. You’ll encounter a fascinating range of exhibits, including a meticulously preserved horse-drawn tram, vintage motor buses, coaches, and an impressive collection of artefacts such as bus stops, ticket machines, timetables, posters, and staff uniforms. They also have recordings on tape which you will find dotted around to add extra information.

And fear not, photography enthusiasts, as there are plenty of picturesque spots for capturing memorable moments. I took one of Oak in an old red phone box and in front of many of the wonderful busses.

One of the highlights of our day was the opportunity to hop on an old bus for a nostalgic ride. Oak and I excitedly sat at the back, surrounded by fellow dog-friendly humans who shared our enthusiasm. It was an experience that truly transported us back in time. We were even given a paper bus ticket each. Oak ate her ticket which made all the other bus people giggle.

For dog owners, we recommend taking your dog for a walk beforehand to make the most of your visit. Just a short walk back towards the main road from the museum, you’ll find good size grass verges where your dog can stretch its legs and enjoy a breath of fresh air. Ensuring your dog’s comfort and allowing them to explore the nearby green spaces will enhance the overall experience for both of you.

As for pricing, the Oxford Bus Museum offers great value at just £8 per adult, with dogs going free! Plus, the museum provides ample parking space free of charge, making it easily accessible for all visitors.

Families will be delighted to discover a children’s play area within the museum premises, featuring a small bus for little ones to enjoy. And speaking of photo opportunities, Oak couldn’t resist sitting in the children’s bus, creating an adorable moment to capture forever.

During our visit, we had the pleasure of meeting a delightful couple who had brought their 100-year-old vintage car for the day. Nigel, one of the owners, kindly offered Oak a chance to sit in the driver’s seat for a couple of photos. It was a special gesture that which I won’t soon forget.

In summary, the Oxford Bus Museum is a treasure trove of transport history that welcomes both humans and their furry companions with open arms. So, whether you’re a bus enthusiast, a dog lover, or simply looking for a unique day out, this is the place to be!

Don’t miss the opportunity to embark on your own adventure at the Oxford Bus Museum. Step back in time, indulge in the rich history of public transport, and create lasting memories with your beloved dog.
